Something out of nothing

I used to know people in my old life who 

created whole careers out of nothing.

And I would say to them: 

If you were not here 

doing this thing 

it would not be made.

It would not come to be.

I never thought of myself that way, not until recently

Now I spend most of my time 

creating something out of nothing

This week I made another cardboard house.

It’s been sitting on my work table for weeks

The idea of it sat in my head 

for much longer.

I was procrastinating. 

(which is a word I hate because it sounds like a disease)

Procrastination.

It reminded me of homework projects 

Not undertaken until the very last moment

Usually the night before.

It felt exactly the same.

You think it would be fun, 

this creating something out of nothing,

But, it’s hard work, too.
