Head Stories Workshop
Course Description
This 2.5-day workshop will be an action-packed, information-filled weekend. We will meet from 2- 5 pm on Friday, Oct. 23rd and then from 10-5 on Saturday and Sunday, October 24 and 25. Beginners are welcome and supported. Please note: this is a very fast-paced workshop.
Using hand-building techniques, we'll create head/shoulders in paper clay.
Phase One: creating pinch pot heads. Jeanine will break down the basic shapes that make up the features and will offer simple instructions to create expressive facial details.
Phase Two: using coil and slab techniques to create small shoulders/busts and necks to hold our heads.
Phase Three: Applying underglaze color and surface design elements to our small busts.
Phase Four: Applying glaze to the finished pieces once the underglaze has dried.
At the end of the workshop, participants can opt to take their finished piece(s) home or have it/them fired at the studio. A firing fee of $50 will be collected during the workshop for those opting for the latter. Jeanine will present a demonstration on how the fired sculptures might be finessed at home with cold finishes. The clay, glazes and take-home tutorials are included in the workshop fee of $525. Basic tools are provided by the studio; however, a list of additional tools will be emailed by Jeanine.
